We're always keen to hear from anyone interested in either playing for us or arranging a fixture between the Allstars and your own side. From the playing perspective, we offer you the pleasures of relaxed, social, cricket without the strictures or skill requirements of the proper club game. In terms of ability, our members range from the pretty decent to the downright hopeless - so whatever your background, you'll feel at home with us. The level of your involvement can be completely flexible - and the choice is yours whether to play every week or twice a season. All we ask is that you honour, as far as possible, any commitment you do choose to make. As of the 2006 season, our match fees are £4 for Full Members (who also pay £20 a season) or £7 for Associate Members and all occasional players. As opposition, we hope you'll find us enthusiastic, good fun, and nice people who play the game in the right spirit. Our playing strength varies but roughly approximates to that of a moderate pub side, although if the wind's blowing in the right direction we can usually compete against small village teams and the majority of clubs on the west London social circuit. If you run the Sunday XI of a league cricket club, you're probably best advised to look elsewhere. In terms of geography, most of our matches take place in south west London, with the Waterloo-Clapham-Richmond/Wimbledon train line serving as an axis. But we always enjoy playing further afield wherever possible, and invite suggestions from anywhere within a day-trip of the capital. So do get in touch, by e-mailing our Secretary Maxie Allen. Our postal address is 456a Upper Richmond Road, London SW15 5RQ. You can also call Maxie on 07885 937108. Committee
Our home venues Our home matches usually take place at Barnes Common CC's ground, on Vine Road, Barnes. On the map below, this is the more northerly of the two cricket grounds in the top left of the picture. ![]() By car from north of the river Go to Hammersmith, following signs for Barnes which will take you over Hammersmith Bridge, and then keep heading south. This road - Castelnau - becomes Rocks Lane, the road you'll see at the top of the map. Follow all signs for Barnes Station: this will take you into Station Road, where you'll find parking spaces immediately next to the ground. By car from south of the river Head to Barnes via Sheen or Putney on the A205 South Circular. This becomes the Upper Richmond Road which runs through the middle of the map. Look out for the floodlights of Rosslyn Park RFC, which is almost opposite the entrance to Vine Road. On Vine Road itself, Barnes Common's ground is approximately 300 yards up on the right hand side, immediately after the second level crossing. By public transport The ground is 50 yards from Barnes Station, which is served by South West Trains routes from Waterloo, Clapham Junction, Richmond, Kingston, Brentford and Staines. Leaving the station, bear left, down the steps into the car park, then turn left and follow the path in the direction of the railway tracks. By tube, go to Hammersmith and then take buses 33 or 72 to Barnes Station. Cross the road into the station itself and then follow the directions above. |
